Abstract:
One of the major challenge of modern Theoretical Condensed Matter is the classification of the phases of matter, especially when interactions, correlations and quantum effects become strong. Big part of this problem deals with the nature of the low energy excitations and the emergence of non-standard thermodynamic and transport properties. In this talk we analyze two specific cases: (I) We discuss the problem of glasses from a new point of view based on hydrodynamics and effective field theory. We introduce a simple model able to reproduce various glassy features from universal and fundamental principles. (II) We challenge the ordinary distinction between solids and fluids and we discuss the construction of a more generic framework. We comment on the relevance of this problem from a theoretical and phenomenological perspective touching various areas of Physics.
